Low Vision
Low Vision Rehabilitation refers to the treatment of individuals who have a vision loss that prevents them from doing their daily activities. These individuals may suffer from a variety of eye diseases such a macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. These individual can have varying levels of visual acuity or visual field loss. These individuals can be of any age. Before we begin low vision rehabilitation we need to establish that all medical and surgical treatments have been exhausted. Low vision rehabilitation begins with a comprehensive history and goal setting. Then a detailed refraction is performed. Sometimes specialized devices such as high powered glasses, magnifiers, or telescopes are prescribed. At home practice is usually recommended with rehabilitation techniques taught. The Bureau of Blindness and Visual Services provides funding for low vision services and devices. Funding is determined on individual case basis. They also provide home based rehabilitation services. If you think you or a loved one is a candidate for low vision services, ask your doctor or call for an appointment and more information. |
